Nelson lawn sprinklers have actually been around longer than Rainbird, but they are a little less well known. Nelson was founded in 1911 and the business stayed in the family until 1972, when Dave Ransburg bought the company.
Out of all the Nelson sprinklers products, I am most impressed with their Solo Rain - Dura Life, battery operated control valve. The battery in the Solo Rain is a lithium battery and is designed to operate for ten years before replacement! It's competitors battery operated control valves are ran on alkaline and have to be replaced about once a year.
Nelson lawn sprinklers are professional grade products and are used by irrigation contractors. I don't use Nelson sprinklers for my sprinkler systems, but I do know a few contractors who live and swear by Nelson sprinklers. I have never seen or heard anything wrong with Nelson lawn sprinklers.
