Orbit lawn sprinklers are not commercial grade and are not widely used by professional irrigation contractors. Orbit sprinklers are priced lower than all their major competitors. Orbit sprinklers can be found at K-Mart, Wal-Mart, Home Depot and Lowes.
Homeowners mostly install orbit lawn sprinkler systems since their parts are carried by the big name chain stores. Most irrigation distributors do not carry Orbit sprinkler parts, which again put a strain on an irrigation contractor who would be coming to your house to do repairs. Since these parts are not in stock on most irrigation contractor's trucks, a bad Orbit sprinkler part would have to be replaced by another brand that the contractor carries. The other option would be that he would have to make a run to one of the local stores to purchase an Orbit part, but this will raise the price of your service call because of the extra time spent.
If you are planning to do an irrigation project yourself and keep up with the maintenance, then Orbit sprinklers could be an option for you. Orbit lawn sprinkler parts are less expensive then bigger name brand parts, so you can save a little bit of money in the beginning. If you do not want to do your own maintenance, then I suggest you have a Rainbird or Hunter system installed in your yard.
I do not personally have a lot of experience with Orbit parts because I do not install them, but I have done maintenance to Orbit sprinklers and see them in action. Orbit sprinklers do not appear to be bad products, but the spray pattern created by their rotor nozzles still does not compare with the Rain Bird Rain Curtain nozzles.
With any sprinkler product you buy, make sure you check out the warranties available and be sure that there is customer support available for their products.
